Diagnostic Ultrasound
Diagnostic Ultrasound
At Crouch Physio, we are committed to providing the highest standard of evidence-based care. As part of this, we are pleased to offer on-site musculoskeletal diagnostic ultrasound scanning as an additional service within our clinic.
What is a musculoskeletal ultrasound scan?
Musculoskeletal ultrasound is a real-time imaging tool that allows us to visualise muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, bursa, and other soft tissues. It uses high-frequency sound waves to produce clear images of structures beneath the skin, without radiation or injections.
Ultrasound is safe, painless, and can be performed by one of our clinical specialist team, allowing immediate correlation between what we see on the scan and your symptoms.
How ultrasound supports diagnosis
While a thorough clinical assessment remains the foundation of good physiotherapy, ultrasound scanning can add valuable information in certain cases. It allows us to:
- Identify tendon pathology such as tendinopathy or tears
- Assess muscle injuries, strains, and healing progress
- Detect inflammation, swelling, or fluid collections
- Visualise ligament injuries and joint structures
- Differentiate between possible causes of pain when symptoms are unclear
Ultrasound scanning at Crouch Physio is used to support, not replace, expert clinical assessment. Not every condition requires imaging, and scans are only recommended when they are likely to meaningfully influence diagnosis or management. If more complex imaging such as MRI or X-ray is required, we will advise and refer appropriately.
Please note that at Crouch Physio, a face to face clinical assessment is required before any ultrasound scan is performed. This ensures that imaging is clinically appropriate and that results are interpreted accurately within the context of your symptoms, movement patterns, and functional goals.
Our Process
Subjective Assessment
We begin with a comprehensive assessment to understand your goals and current physical condition.
Objective Testing
You will be thoroughly assessed and may be asked to perform a series of movements on our VALD force plates as well as isometric muscle testing using ActivForce technology, which will record and analyse your performance in real-time.
Data Analysis
Our expert physiotherapists will interpret the data to identify strengths, weaknesses, and potential risk factors.
Personalised Plan
Based on the analysis, we will develop a customised programme to address your specific needs, whether for injury prevention, rehabilitation, or performance enhancement.
Follow-Up
Regular follow-up sessions to track your progress and adjust your plan as necessary.
